Effective public transportation.

[–]DUCKPATOENTEBIBE 221 points222 points  (12 children)

high speed rail, modern trams 😭😭😭😭

[–]Original-Author-2384 153 points154 points  (7 children)

I’m even okay with buses, jeeps and whatnot. Just have them arrive at pickup and drop off points ON SCHEDULE.

And minding their own lanes instead of hogging 3 out of 4 lanes, causing more traffic.

[–]LongColdNight 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Imagine our current buses, jeeps, and even trikes, upgraded for safety, clean air, and roadworthiness. Well-trained drivers paid by the DOTC who pick up and drop off only in designated areas. One lane on every road with more than two lanes given to them and them being trusted to use it well. Covered stops with wide sidewalks.

[–]cratermon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]nxcrosisAverage Chooks to Go Enjoyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

May daan dito sa amin na sobrang clear na two lanes pero malawak dahil daanan ng truck kung gabi therefore free real estate during morning and afternoon rush hour.

[–]EmperorHad3sLuzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also the government need to subsidize yung public transpo natin para talaga enforced yung scheduling ng arrival and departure.

[–]sweethomeafritadaMetro Manila 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Jeeps should really be phased out. Their presence was in response/band aid solution to the destruction of Manila’s tram system. Public transport options that have their exclusive right of way aka trains, metros, subways should be the norm. Trams can be applied though I worry for accidents due to bobo drivers and carefree pedestrians.

[–]Mperrier1234 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Up on high speed rail. Naunahan pa tayo ng Indonesia.

[–]redragonDerp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nagbakasyon kami sa South Korea last November. Inggit ako sa public transport nila. Sana satin rin hay.

[–]anamazingredditor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Orgasmic pakinggan

[–]mangyon 52 points53 points  (1 child)

Agree with this. I worked in another asian country with a good public transportation system, dun ko na-realize how messed up ours is. - hindi nakakahiya umupo sa train (as a guy), kasi maraming upuan, also ok lang tumayo sa train kasi consistent yung travel time in between stations - maayos and mine-maintain yung train stations; in the few years that I lived there, nakita kong na-upgrade and improve yung mga train cars.

[–]Nero234 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really hate the waiting time sa buses. Don't get me wrong I know na they need to make money kaya aalis lang yung bus kapag punong puno na (may mga nakatayo).

[–]TheTalkativeDollalas quatro kid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same! When I lived in China many years ago, bus stops had signs with bus routes and numbers so you know which bus numbers/lines would stop at your stop, where else it would stop, how many stops it would take to get there, and what time was the first and last service for that bus line. Later on, I cant remember if it was Baidu or another app, you could see if the bus line you need to take is approaching your stop and estimated arrival time. It wasn't always super accurate, and my comments/observations on co-commuters are not always all good, but it was such a great way to find out how to get around, and a lifesaver if you get lost (if you dont want to spend on a taxi). Especially if you didn't have access to the internet, because 10-15yrs ago it wasn't as internet dependent as it is now.

[–]pbl090804 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Boundary system should be abolished. Corpos (under PPP) should take over the jeepney systems.

[–]Original-Author-2384 16 points17 points  (0 children)

💯 Exactly. In other countries all the drivers care about is being on time. They don’t wait 30mins para lang mapuno yung 16 seater jeepneys nila ng “sampuan” each side, may 4 pa na sabit sa dulo.

Everyone suffers with the current setup.

[–]paxtecum8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]Shogun-Caesar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah Pub transpo is extremely disappointing especially after you arrive in the country from Japan like I did lol. I remember taking a ferry that was supposed to leave at like 5:30 pm but by 6:30 the thing hasnt even docked yet.

[–]lalalgenio 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This! I was going to say this! Honestly, if we have better transpo I really think there would be less private cars on the road.

[–]SatisfactoryLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone described by friends and family na di mabubuhay nang walang kotse, lagi ko to sinasabi lalo na pag galing akong ibang bansa (i.e. Japan); hindi ko kailangan ng kotse kung kasing efficient ng Japan ang public transpo natin.

[–]avocado1952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eto talaga eh.

[–]CL_is_my_queenMetro Manila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Embarrassed-Fee1279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totoo.

[–]CantRenameThis 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Akala ko something about coco(nut)-dust na gamit as materyales. Coco-cost pala hahaha

[–]franafernz27Luzon 68 points69 points  (1 child)

This should be the top comment

[–]Thin-Length-1211 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree!!

[–]pythadzuki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man! I've been talking about this the whole week!!!

[–]rldshell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont think people understand what green cities are.

[–]Aeron0704 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Last time na napunta ako dun nung 2013 pa, ang ganda kasi puro puno

[–]IndaySaraGeronimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. City of the Living God na siya.😂 Sobrang init. You can see it tops the temperature warning everyday.

[–]zarustras 40 points41 points  (3 children)

[–]yourgrace91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More public libraries 📚

[–]No_Butterscotch4981 107 points108 points  (12 children)

[–]ri0246[] 26 points27 points  (3 children)

This is awesome! I wish we have these in provinces too. Wishing your library the best, and more patrons to come! ❣️

[–]No_Butterscotch4981 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Thank you! We're trying to market as much as we can, sadly not a lot of people use the library now. But it's a perfect place to study, read, and work.

[–]Ok_Werewolf1657 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Public libraries na di lang books pinapahiram. I own a Kindle. Plus, they are able to borrow movies and in some cases video games and audiobooks.

[–]diatomaceousearth01 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I am in Vancouver and my local library gives us access to Cricut, 3d printing, and nintendo switch games!! Hehehe

[–]Howbowduh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just recently learned that we have RA 7743 that requires every local government unit—district, city, municipality—to have a public library, and every barangay should have a reading center.

Another law that is not well implemented in the Philippines.

[–]Brokbakan 243 points244 points  (5 children)

[–]mshaneler 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Shoppee-like app na PURO pinoy products. Yung bang wala ang reseller, chinese products. As in direct pinoy makers-to-consumers lang

[–]DoubleLow3048 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Sana may maka realize ng concept na 'to. It would help our local trade industry so much.

[–]_xtrarice 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I previously worked as a digital marketing executive for a company that had this goal. Magso-soft launch sana nu'ng 2018 (target was June), kaso insufficient yung support from investors, partners, and collaborators. Around May 2018, na-pullout yung project tapos yung mother company, nakipag-merge na lang with a digital media LLC. We had a vision na gawing regional yung demographic with dedicated CS who can speak the languages based sa province/region, and i-push yung trade sa local products para ma-expand yung reach ng mga lesser-known small businesses, kaso not many believed it would be efficient enough to work. Sayang, kase I genuinely thought that was gonna be my career highlight and help empower fellow Filipinos in supporting local merchs. Na-displace ako with one last project in Singapore, bago nag-pullout yung client completely.

[–]wa-ra-gud 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Nice idea. Gawan natin ng app to. 😁

[–]nnetcatil 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you do, kindly include yung mga small local farmers.

[–]jethawkings 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Shoppee/Lazada thrives because of those cheap chinese products.

You're better off just Favoriting/Saving the accounts/pages/websites of local manufacturers/vendors.

For context, even Amazon and Etsy are now filled to the brim with cheap crap from China.

[–]potatoinallways 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Actually, goods sana na underground na din lahat ng utilities natin kaso some factors we need to consider is:

  1. Bahain yung country natin

[–]sundaeknows 110 points111 points  (17 children)

Common sense, rational and critical thinking. Discussion of politics, religion and other social issues para hindi nabobobo yung mga tao kapag kailangan na magdecide about those topics. Not talking about it makes people ignorant. Sex?

[–]uwuwubleh 15 points16 points  (11 children)

This should be the top comment!

With sex education, 80% of the people are catholics. And they do not believe in pre-marital sex. Having sex before marriage is a no no. They're blinded by their religion kaya naman hindi sila naniniwala pag yung anak nila may ginagawa ng kasalanan at ano naman gagawin ng tao pag nakagawa na? Tatanggapin nalang kase blessing kay God. I experience this myself. This is a true story.

I think the reason why most plp are stupid is bc how the system is set up. How the government controls the people. It's "poverty" and corruption combo plus uneducated people. This country is corrupt by it's roots and only the rich benefits. There's even a song about this by bamboo, gloc-9 and up to today it remains true.

[–]sundaeknows 11 points12 points  (10 children)

Religion dumbs people. Change my mind.

[–]HatsNDiceRolls 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Dunno what to tell you, maybe that’s true for the fundamentalists. But not true for all.

History would tell you that a good bit of academic scholarship everywhere was rooted in religious education. From the golden age of Islam, to philosophy with thinkers like Aquinas, to the Jesuits, and the concept of the classroom system that was revolutionized by La Salle.

Religions don’t necessarily make people dumb. Religions used by charlatans, scoundrels, and tyrants do.

[–]sundaeknows 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Enlighten me about this golden age of Islam. As far as I know, Baghdad used to be the intellectual center of the world until it got sacked and Islam rose to prominence. Majority of the discoveries during that time period wasn’t because of religion.

I would still give credit to where it’s due. I thank the Catholic Church and the Jesuit priests for our modern day calendar system.

[–]uwuwubleh 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I agree 100%

They just believe something will work out on its own if it's God's willing kahit wala na sa tama

[–]sundaeknows 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Faith is the firm belief in something for which there is no proof. That describes majority of the people who voted for those idiots in the government. See faith isn’t just for religion. It extends to almost everything. I would rather have questions that couldn’t be answered (for now) rather answers that couldn’t be questioned. You can’t make me believe in something without any evidence or at least any logical explanation why I should.

[–]markmarkmark77 62 points63 points  (2 children)

more parks / open spaces. kaka inggit sa ibang bansa ang daming parks.

more trains, maayos na public transpo

[–]pulubingpinoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Late 80s and early 90s talamak ang public parks.

I hate it now that in order for our kids to play, we need kid zoona and other ball pit themed parks sa malls. :(

All of that are gone because we love cars.

Public libraries open for 24 hours. Cafes are expensive, most Filipino houses aren’t ideal learning environment tbh :((

[–]ri0246[] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. And pati rin cafes minsan hindi na rin ganoon ka-conducive kasi it gets loud and crowded. We've planned on doing this before, but considering the wage in the Philippines, medyo hard sya i-sustain on the side.

[–]Life_Amount_8433 56 points57 points  (9 children)

I've been living in malaysia for almost two years now and while PH and MY are both tagged as third-world countries, it's hard to admit na life is more comfortable in MY. Why? For me, primarily because of trains. The whole of KL has accessible trains and they are all interconnected, I, myself am living in a condo and nasa likod lang ang train station so I can literally travel around KL anytime. Except of course, during midnights as train stations only operate til 12MN-ish.

Also, roads are pedestrian-friendly, so it's either magtrain ka na lang talaga or walk, except kung tamad ka and di ka masasayangan sa pag grab.

[–]sharkybyte101 43 points44 points  (5 children)

When people say MY, PH and TH are third world countries... natatawa na lang ako. Napagiwanan na tayo nila.

Meanwhile us who always go to these countries... alam natin... ang layo... ang layo talaga ng agwat na.

Reliable cashless payment (the method itself and terminals in establishments)

[–]Project--4 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I think the reason why it isn't being promoted/adopted is the high probability of being hacked. Criminals with NFC scanners when you ride the MRT everyday will just create more socmed post about wanting refunds. Businesses don't want to deal with that headache, and with the law enforcement in the Philippines, and I don't blame them.

[–]xiaolongbaoloyalist 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Better consumer protection.

Hobbies and recreational center (not just Basketball Courts). Have something like a “Board Game Library” or TTRPG game areas

[–]ri0246[] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Hey, this sounds incredible actually! I wish this could happen even in just one place.

A Board Game Library will definitely appeal to groups including the seniors. Imagine how cute it is to see a group of senior citizens enjoying a game of Catan.

[–]ri0246[] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Diba? I remember seeing some of these scenes in some Kdramas where seniors are playing board games under the shade of trees.

TTRPGs are nice too, it enhances creativity and imagination!

As for Community of TTRPG players, I believe they do have it, but it's more online. Would be nice see it as a norm though. But of course, people nowadays would mostly do it if it was trending.

[–]_iam1038_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Siguro if people saw tiktok posts/fb reels of groups playing TTRPG, malamang dumami ang D&D Players bigla hahaha. pero no joke I hope dumami yung Board Game and TTRPG Communities/Players dito. Would've been good din if mayroon sa mga Universities

[–]BooksAreBetterThanTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually just talking with my wife about how cool it would be to start a board game cafe where people could come play games and enjoy a simple menu, but we live so far from town that it wouldn't work for us.

[–]jethawkings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's actually a lot of them now in the Metro. If you're not living in Metro Manila, unironically because of this be the change you want to be, like I know there's a huge sense of fear/embarassment of just posting on a Local Facebook Group asking around if there are people who want to try TTRPGs / Board Game Days.

A competitive financial system.

Not just in local cities but PH as a whole has an awful financial system structure. I like InstaPay and PESONet but that's it.

As soon as we need to deal with outgoing international transfers, SOBRANG outdated. Either mahal ng fees or sobrang manual ng processing.

Just take quick look at Western Union TH vs Western Union PH. You can do an easy online transfer from TH to PH. But PH to TH? Kailangan pa mag cash out at pumunta sa pinakamalapit na branch lol.

Our stock market is dead.

We don't have decent IRAs. We tried with P.E.R.A. but there's not enough offerings.

Our SEC banned "forex" and and is doing a crackdown on crypto, instead of finding ways to regulate it.

But this is expected, the local banks/corporations and SEC are not investing a lot on innovation. One look at their internal processes and you'd know how manual it is. It's difficult to improve or innovate if ang daming manual na ginagawa.

Also efficient public transportation none of that "Cable Car" bullshit said by one of the senators. We need more modern fast-efficient public transpo for the general public . It doesnt make sense that it takes 3-5 hours of commute to get from Home to work (and back) . Remote work , PH companies are known to micromanage its employees . Just this alone is beneficial for a lot of people in the community

Night markets, hope the government support SMEs para dumami successful businesses. Meaning more restaurants, more choices of quality food.

Better new choices of food near every convenience store.

Also hope that mas malaki serving ng isang meal.

Less car centric Philippines. Ban tiktok.

Philippines should have more free parks for leisure, interactive museums.

Integrated transportation system under the jurisdiction of the government.

Example here is Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur has a state owned company Rapid KL. Rapid KL handles the entire city public transportation. From buses, LRT, MRT, and their Monorail. The only form of public transport that can be operated by a private individual are grab cars(which if I remember correctly not supervised by the government at all unlike here.) and taxi.

Kuala Lumpur has traffic but the people of KL have no trouble traveling within the city because of their buses and trains. Top of that, Grab and taxi are way more cheaper there than here. RapidKL also use a tap card which can be find in most develop countries. In thr Philippines, we don't have a unified payment scheme for this. Everything is too separated.

In the Philippines, for me personally, I believe letting the general public handle the public transport is a huge mistake. Department of Transportation should have been the one to operate on every PUV in the city, not under private individuals minus grab, angkas, and taxis. Since anyone can form their own transport company, there is no uniformity. No standards on what the buses look like in the metro. Different standards in picking bus drivers. In jeeps, same issue but way worse. Any man with a drivers license can become a jeepney driver. And since jeepney drivers use boundary system, nangyayari they will break almost every single traffic rule para kumita kahit tumambay ng ubod ng tagal sa isang pwesto mapuno lang ang jeep. Not all jeepney drivers are like this pero marami sila ganito.

Also ito pa. OUR PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM GIVES MORE IMPORTANCE TO PROFIT THAN PASSENGER SAFETY AND COMFORT.

And another issue sa pagdependent ng government sa public for public transport. WHEN THE GOVERNMENT DECIDED THAT EVERYONE REQUIRES TO UPGRADE LIKE JEEPNEY MODERNIZATION PROGRAM, NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD IT. PLUS NOBODY IS RIGHT OR WRONG HERE. TAMA ANG GOVERNMENT NA KAILANGAN PALITAN NA LUMANG JEEP NA LAMPAS NA LAMPAS NA SERVICE LIFE. PERO TAMA RIN NORMAL JEEPNEY DRIVER NA MAWAWALAN SILA NG HANAPBUHAY.

The only way na lang is to rebuilt the entire public transport system. One company owned by the state to handle everything. All public transportation right shall be bought out. Make all vehicles standard in all of metro manila. Give importance to passenger safety and comfort than profit. Build more trains. Let buses operate more on larger roads while jeepneys will only operate in smaller public roada but Buses should be the main public transport in the city. Grab, angkas, and taxi be given more leeway to operate.

Ang rami... Pero lahat ito kaya natin in the next 5 years, mark my word - it's all about whether enough private or government involvement will happen once the public asks for them, oh well.

  • Public bathing/shower facilities next to all major destinations (a must-have for those who bike-commute or do any commuting nowadays, honestly. Arriving to a meet-up all smelly is a valid dealbreaker for some, but unfortunately that tends to push them to use a car instead as I would understand).

  • Safe lockers/item keeping facilities in major destinations (As is relevant with the previous point, some people don't want to lug around an entirely separate bag full of unwashed clothes if they're meeting up with someone, or if they're using a motorcycle and they have no space for their helmet: their gear, especially in formal occasions. At least 20% of my concerns with commuting places in today's weather tends to be with where I'll be able to shower in case I get all-sweaty, and where I can store my stuff so that I don't need to bring a bag of smelly clothes to a meet-up with friends).

Puro dumi. I know it's bad to compare, but since cleaning up rivers is a relatively small task to hope for: look at South Korea, Japan, etc... They've got small rivers all over the city too, but they're clean and you can walk around them and just spend time there. Ilan-ilan lang ang ganun satin. Better yet, we could clean up and make riverbanks walkable destinations in so many rural places habang wala pang build-up of settlements or large establishments around them. Also, imagine the amount of people you could employ to help maintain these rivers? Ayun, we suddenly have a lot of locals who are incentivized to keep the river clean because it's nice, and a bunch of locals who are now consistently employed by an LGU to maintain the river)

  • A Unified Transportation Card (As much as it incentivizes private investment into cashless technologies, I'd much rather ALL our transportation modes that use cashless payments support the same exact cards/technologies instead of having varieties of support. I don't mind TripKo, BEEP, BeepCard, etc... existing, what I mind is the fact that I can't use them interchangeably because a lot of these transportation organizations are private entities. Please incentivize universal support, not forcing the typical metro-wide commuter to have two, three, four cards just to get around. ALSO, pwede bang refillable sila at every convenience store? We know it's possible, the only thing keeping it from happening is lack of government willingness to enforce universality and the maintenance of payment terminals + a lot of private interest for having their own ecosystem of payments. I hope in the next 5 years, with stuff like EasyTrip and Autosweep being interoperable that others follow suit, such as the bus and train-focused cards.)

  • Established Transportation Stops, Wayfinding, and Online Publication of Info (One of the major things keeping a lot of the middle-class convinced that cars are their 'goal' transportation mode is because of how unintuitive it is to learn PUV/PUJ routes in new places. Please, we can no longer rely exclusively on the P2P or the Tricycle-like any stop systems. We need to establish formal stops. This allows us to create CONSISTENT fare matrices, allowing commuters to know exactly where to wait for a ride and where to get off, and most of all: If adjustments to the route happen, knowing the exact stops is a lot more useful to a commuter than just telling them that the boundaries of the jeep has changed, for example. Please, established stops which allow the public to know where they will leave the jeep, and always post updated fare matrices online for all routes. Mas mahirap ito under the current system na boundary-boundary, please. This doesn't even rely on the buses consolidating, it's all just regulation and willingness by govs to establish even just literal signboards to designate where the stops are. Most jeeps stop at vaguely the same destinations anyways along major avenues, let's formally establish them para walang vague. The small investment of a dozen signboards, the few weeks of deciding where the best stops for commuters are, a week of communicating with all operators, and a week of communicating the transition to established stops to the commuters is already below the amount of effort needed compared to the stuff they do regularly do now, and ang laki pa ng benefit).

[–]Expensive-Phone-2111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge respect to producers such as farmers, fishers. They are the one providing us food yet government sees them as pheasants! In Japan government highly respected them! And greatly worries for them because farmers are now getting old. How about Us? We should have been food independent long ago yet no we are importing rice! We are #1 in importing rice! And we also importing fish? We are surrounded by it yet we can’t even? This is humiliating.

1) Green spaces

Maraming puno sa sidewalk. May hectares of grass and trees talaga for children to play at and people to stroll on. Progress doesn’t equate to buildings talaga.

2) Public notices

Yung local council mag po-post ng proposals/plans tapos ini-invite ang public to challenge it or counter propose. And the public, normally and to my disbelief, usually would oppose citing pollution or increase in road traffic.

Wide road shoulder with dedicated personal mobility device/bike lane.

That, or ma-ban sana mga may sasakyang papampam na walang garahe.

Enforced clean air laws. Yung tipong pag nagsisiga ang neighbor mo you can call the authorities to put a stop to it and maticketan sila.

Noise pollution laws. Like in other countries you can straight up call the cops for a noise complaint.

More stringent privacy laws. Yung dapat when you’re filming/taking pics in public you should be legally required to blur out faces of other people.

Child protective services.

Sex offender registry.

Food stamps.

Trees on the Sidewalk.

[–]Instability-Angel012Kung ikaw ay masaya, tumawa ka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Public transportation. I just want to see my country, before I die, have trains running from Laoag all the way to Zamboanga, train ferries in the San Bernardino and Surigao Straits. I want modernized and disciplined jeeps and buses. I want to see bus stops and people lining up there. With the PUJ Modernization program ongoing, the numerous train projects under construction (LRT1 Cavite Extension, Metro Manila Subway, North-South Commuter Railway) and ongoing feasibility studies:

  • San Mateo Railway

  • PNR North Long Haul

  • Samar-Leyte Railway

  • Northern Mindanao Railway

  • Davao region phase ng Mindanao Railway

I hope we're getting to a better public transportation scene in the Philippines.

2) Sidewalks. Good and nice sidewalks that are not hogged up by some street vendor or dweller.

3) Third places (parks, libraries etc). Give people more choices for places to stay that are not home or school/work! Give us playgrounds, parks, and libraries.

4) Greenery in the city. Are tree-lined avenues just a dream for the Philippines? I hope not. And if gagawa man sila, 'wag sana mahogany. Please.

5) Protection of cultural heritage. Where are the remains of old train stations, of old Spanish outposts? Sana naman naiingatan. As far as I know, the former Aduana building is being renovated, so I guess that's a good start. The old stations ng PNR North Line is also to be renovated and made into mini-museums.

6) Land value taxation.

7) Credible military might. The AFP Modernization Program is ongoing so I'm all for it, especially when they said they were going to natively manufacture our ships. We also need to boost STEM education in order to make our own technology.

8) Robust export-oriented manufacturing sector. We should not just export agricultural products and minerals; we should also be able to process the minerals as well as make other goods other than those. I want Filipino household items exported; imagine a Filipino refrigerator brand? Or a Filipino car brand?

9) Language protection. Our culture is super diverse. May mga namamatay na na wika sa Pilipinas, and we need to ensure that those languages would not go totally extinct. I know mandato 'to ng KWF and I hope they are doing their job.

10) Thriving book industry. Madadaming Pilipinong magaling sumulat. We should give them support and the proper avenue to succeed. We need to bring back the importance of reading. It would help us in many ways, from language exposure to cultural exposure to improving critical thinking and many more.

11) Better schools and curriculum. What should I say more here?

12) A sense of patriotism. Hindi lang siya pagiging makabayan, but also doing things for the motherland. Not littering anywhere is an act of patriotism. Using bathroom facilities properly is an act of patriotism. Avoiding red tape, not being corrupt, just even crossing the street through the zebra crossing is an act of patriotism.

I am a biotechnology student. One thing that I wish we had ay yung development at pag-tangkilik sa native livestock breeds natin, especially yung one specific breed ng cattle sa Pinas (don't know if I can mention the breed kasi pinag-aaralan pa). It's a small breed ng cattle pero maganda yung marbling. One thing my prof mentioned that he observed when they visited the island where this cattle was found is that walang kaalam-alam ang mga small farmers na they are selling high quality beef away like it's regular beef. It will just take sufficient funding and a few decades (or lesss) and we can develop our own "Hanwoo" beef from this. Unfortunately, nalolook over talaga siya.

Laws against companies who sell substances that they claim would treat disease. They often hide behind the word supplement and though the disclaimer on there being no therapeutic claims appears, their ads continually show testimonials as evidence of their efficacy.

Laws on financial education and regulation. In the UK, for example, one can not call themselves financial advisers unless they obtain a license.

In other country may mga respeto sa mga kapitbahay nila. Kapag alam na nilang maingay (karaoke or something) ang isang bahay or tao at disturbing na tumatawag ng pulis at rumiresponde agad at hinuhuli. Pulis agad ang huhuli sayo walang barangay barangay they know its stupid when you have this wala ngang barangay sa ibang bansa.

Somewhere here in malabon may barangay dito na walang kuwenta yung kapitan. Madaming reklamo sa barangay tapos yung mga tanod nila they just want to know na tanod sila. Walang responde.

Larger Parking spaces sa MGA terminal ng trains (LRT/MRT) Sa ibang bansa Park Lang nila sasakyan nila then they still use trains papuntang work para iwas traffic. Then bus terminal na malapit sa Every train stations to go to places with actual bus schedules.

also walkable city, though sa BGC ko lang talaga mas feel yung ganito, Walang sidewalk vendors, walang inggay, Di Nako nag bubus sa loob ng BGC naglalakad lang Ako papuntang work Dati napaka peaceful maglakad sa umaga this was way back 2010 pa Ewan ko nalang kung ganito padin sa BGC..., pag labas mo BGC dun na battlefield ng mga commuters talaga eh

[–]malaya12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parks! If every baranggay or town will have a park na may playground, area for exercise or just trees and tables. Babad ang pilipino sa social media because very limited ang place where we can do activities outside. Madami ngang mall pero magastos, but if we have free parks we can exercise there and socialize.

[–]oncomms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]ishwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just too many! Had opportunities to go to other countries and ito talaga:

  • Walkable streets/areas (usually business districts ko lang ito nakikita but other than that, wala na. Nakakatakot maglakad baka mahawi ka ng kotse).
  • Efficient public transportation
  • Na you can just leave your things on a spot in a restaurant and expect mo andyan pa rin pagbalik mo. (sa probinsya you can, pero dito sa Manila - nah I won't risk it)

[–]Riko_7456Abroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metros that run til late in at least NCR, Cebu, Davao, less flyovers, sanitation of all waterways, land-reform, rule of law especially against public officials, waterfront development for all major cities

[–]NetherCookiez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Effective Mass Public Transportation to be honest. I loathe the car-centric developments here in the Philippines.

While on the topic of car-centric developments, better sidewalks. It sucks that it's always road widening for the cars but it comes at the cost of decent sidewalks. As someone who loves to walk even under these weather conditions, I wish we had better sidewalks that weren't parked by vehicles, or became crowded with vendors.

[–]mmimbulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. More LRT lines connecting NCR to key cities in southern and northern Luzon. In an alternate universe PH, maybe we have a train system connected to sea ports (Quezon, Batangas which have routes to other islands) and other major transportation hubs. It will shorten land travel time by a lot.
  2. Well-equipped public libraries that allows registered residents to borrow books. It would be good to have free access to quality local publications as well as popular titles regardless of one's socioeconomic background. Maybe public libraries should take an active role in promoting information literacy among the masses.
  3. A big well-maintained public central park with lots of trees, a lake, kinda like Lumphini Park in Bangkok. Rizal Park is too urban.

An actual screening commitee for our political candidates + shorter campaign periods. Experienced the presidential election in another asian country. Strict ang qualifications for their president. Dapat may napatunayan + experience in serving the public sector. Before pa sila maaprubahan, all their qualifications and dirty laundry is aired out na. Then the campaign period is pretty short compared to ours na sobrang haba to the point na naging nuisance na ang mga pulitiko sa kakapabango ng pangalan nila everywhere. They could do this kasi nga, the committee has made sure na the candidates are more than qualified na for the positions they are applying for before pa sila tumakbo

PSN apparently, Sony has been a dominant market in the console gaming world here but since sanay na most people on just buying physical media we just have to accept the Gray Area of using a different country when signing up. Which is fine until your Credit Card gets blocked and you move on to the new console and nothing from your library gets switched over because hey it's probably more profitable for Sony to just have you rebuy everything again.

Good governance

[–]MACQueu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sakin eto gusto ko..... Full Participative Democracy. A citizen driven democracy. Remove the president and give the power to the people.

In a direct democracy, there is typically no single individual holding the title of president or head of government. Instead, decisions are made collectively by the citizenry through various mechanisms of direct participation, such as referendums, town hall meetings, or online voting platforms. The emphasis is on the direct involvement of all citizens in governance, rather than the concentration of power in the hands of a single leader.

This direct democracy involves every citizen directly participating in decision-making processes, promoting increased engagement, transparency, and inclusivity.

However, challenges include ensuring accessibility, protecting minority rights, streamlining processes, and safeguarding against manipulation. Addressing these challenges requires investment in education, safeguards for minority rights, streamlining decision-making, and enhancing transparency and accountability mechanisms.

This is real democracy. Look at Duterte era and Marcos Era. Upfront obvious anomalies and corruption pero covered up kasi centralized power.

Effective and efficient mass transpo, greener spaces, public libraries (please lang, ang hirap mag-aral/work sa cafés), at saka underground electric wires para aesthetic.
